Bloomingdale is a well-established neighborhood in the heart of Washington, D.C., located less than two miles north of the United States Capitol. It is located south of Channing Street, northwest of Rhode Island Avenue, and north of North Capitol Street, east of 2nd Street northwestern. Howard University is located to the north of the neighborhood. The neighborhood's layout and geography encourage residents to socially interact, resulting in a close-knit community. Because the majority of the shopping is concentrated along 4th Street, neighbors can meet and get to know one another. The majority of the homes in Bloomingdale were built in the Victorian style around 1900. This newly revitalised neighborhood is surrounded by LeDroit Park on the west, Eckington on the east and Shaw on the south-west end.
